Sarah Ellen Davis
Status: looking for family
Sarah Ellen Davis was the youngest of five children born to Hannah Slingluff and Charles Davis. She appears across four (!) photos in the family collection:
Sarah on the top
Sarah on the left
Notably, I love how it’s apparent the family all went to Mr. Day in Norristown to have their photographs taken as a group on the same day - you can see that Sarah Ellen is wearing the same outfit in two of the photos, as is her sister Charlotte, and their mother.
Sarah (or did she go by Ellen?) was born in 1874. A clue on the back of one of her portraits indicates that she married a man named Reiff; the 1900 census, though, indicates that she was still single at 26 and living with her parents. By the 1908 census, though, she had found her boo: she married Henry Reiff that year, and they moved to Eagleville, Pennsylvania. Sarah worked as a school teacher for a time, as indicated in the 1910 census (a profession that apparently ran in the family; most of her siblings were also employed as teachers), and by the 1920 census Henry was also working as a teacher while Sarah stayed home.
Sarah died in 1954 having had no children. She is buried at the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Eagleville, PA.
