William Abernethy started his photography business in 1885 at 29 High Street in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

He used the Royal Warrant seal after 1900, after photographing Queen Victoria during her visit to Dublin and receiving a royal appointment. Cards with his prior logo, as pictured below, suggest the photo would have been taken prior to 1900.
